Tragic Incident in Jigawa: Tea Vendor Fatally Beats Young Man Over Alleged Theft
In a distressing turn of events in Sararai village, located in Jigawar Tsada town, Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Abdulrashibu Ya’u, a 40-year-old tea vendor, has been apprehended for the brutal killing of 20-year-old Hassan Garba.
Reports indicate that the conflict arose when Ya’u accused Garba of stealing various items including bread, milk, noodles, and petrol. In a fit of rage over these alleged thefts, Ya’u decided to take matters into his own hands. He reportedly tied Garba with a rope and proceeded to beat him with a stick, causing severe injuries. Despite efforts to save him, Garba was pronounced dead upon arrival at Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital.
According to DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer in Jigawa, Ya’u has confessed to the crime during an interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse. Ya’u expressed that his anger had reached its peak due to Garba's persistent thefts and disclosed that he had previously informed Garba’s family about the thefts without receiving any response or action from them.
Eyewitnesses reported that they heard Garba’s cries for help, but were unable to intervene due to the severity of the situation until the police arrived. The community was left shaken by the violent outcome of what initially seemed to be a minor dispute.
The police have conducted a thorough investigation into the incident and have assured that Ya’u will face legal consequences in court, where he will be held accountable for his actions.
