London Police Investigating New Case Linked to Ike Ekweremadu's Conviction, Reveals Documentary
In the recently released documentary "Daniel vs Ekweremadu" by Chude Jideonwo Presents, a startling revelation has emerged: the London Metropolitan Police are currently investigating a case linked to the conviction of former Nigerian Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu. Ekweremadu was sentenced to 10 years in a British prison last year for human trafficking and organ harvesting.
The first part of this two-part docu-series, written and directed by award-winning filmmaker and TV host Chude Jideonwo, premiered on Friday, August 23. The documentary provides an in-depth exploration of Ekweremadu's dramatic fall from power in Nigeria to his incarceration in the UK, making it the first conviction under the UK’s Modern Slavery Law to include a Nigerian politician.
According to the documentary, Alexandra Meek, a senior communication manager for the Metropolitan Police, confirmed in an email to the producers that there is an ongoing investigation connected to Ekweremadu's case. She stated, “With regards to the live investigation, which is linked – On Tuesday, 8 November 2022 detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime arrested a woman on suspicion of conspiracy to exploit for the purposes of organ harvesting. The woman, who is in her 50s, has been released under investigation. Enquiries remain ongoing.”
Due to this active investigation, the Metropolitan Police declined to participate in the documentary. The case's intricate details and ongoing nature have added another layer of complexity to the already high-profile situation surrounding Ekweremadu.
The documentary *Daniel vs Ekweremadu*—the name "Daniel" being a pseudonym for the victim-survivor—documents the harrowing tale of how Ekweremadu, along with his wife Beatrice and associate Dr. Obinna Obeta, was convicted under the UK’s stringent anti-slavery laws. The series, shot across Nigeria and the United Kingdom, features exclusive interviews with British prosecutors, police, and the family of the survivor, presenting a comprehensive account of the events leading to the conviction.
This unprecedented documentary is available for streaming exclusively on *withChude.com* and represents a groundbreaking effort by a West African independent studio to shed light on this significant legal case.
